What are the advantages and disadvantages of automated warehouse

With the rapid development of each industry has slowly used the automated warehouse, automated warehouse also referred to as three-dimensional warehouse.Generally refers to the use of several, more than ten or even dozens of storeys high shelf storage unit goods, with the corresponding material handling equipment for goods in and out of the warehouse operation.Because this kind of warehouse can make full use of space to store goods, it is often called “three-dimensional warehouse”. What are the advantages and disadvantages?

1. The main advantages of automated warehouse are as follows:

(1) The use of high-rise shelf storage and tunnel stacker operation can greatly increase the effective height of the warehouse, make full use of the effective area and storage space of the warehouse, make the goods storage centralized and three-dimensional, reduce the floor area and reduce the land purchase cost.

(2) It can realize the mechanization and automation of warehouse operation, and greatly improve the work efficiency.

(3) As the materials are stored in a limited space, it is easy to control the temperature and humidity.

(4) Using computer for control and management, the operation process and information processing are rapid, accurate and timely, which can accelerate the material turnover and reduce the storage cost.

(5) Due to the centralized storage and computer control of goods, it is conducive to the adoption of modern science and technology and modern management methods

2. The main disadvantages of automated warehouse are as follows:

(1) The warehouse structure is complex, and there are many supporting equipment, which requires a lot of infrastructure and equipment investment.

(2) Shelf installation requires high precision, construction is difficult, and construction period is long.

(3) Computer control system is the “nerve center” of warehouse.Once a failure occurs, the whole warehouse will be paralyzed, and the receiving and sending operations will be interrupted.

(4) As the high-rise shelves are stored in units with standard goods, there are certain limitations to the types of goods stored.

(5) Due to the implementation of automatic control and management in the warehouse, it is highly technical and requires high technical and professional quality of the staff. They must have a certain level of education and professional knowledge, and only those who have been specially trained can be competent.
